“Mr. Joanis has proven himself to be a capable leader and an outstanding attorney,” said Deputy Attorney General Rick Svobodny. “He has quickly moved up within the Department’s ranks and I am confident in his abilities to oversee the Kenai District Attorney’s Office.”

Okmok blows off ash again
Okmok Volcano blew again Monday, sending ash several miles into the air to about 35,000 feet, according to satellite images. The images indicate ash was heading east to southeast from the volcano. The intensity and duration of seismicity from the eruption at Okmok had changed from continuous tremor to a pulsating signal over the past seven hours, the Alaska Volcano Observatory stated in Tuesday morning updates. These pulses are strong enough to be easily identified on seismometers on Makushin Volcano on Unalaska Island.
Stronger explosive activity could resume at any time with little or no warning.
