Daigle shatters PR mark en route to 14th at Bartlett
Moseley gives Lady Mariners their second top 20 finisher at state preview
Autumn Daigle wrote an impressive new chapter in her high school cross country career on Saturday.
The Homer High School standout shattered her personal-best mark at the Bartlett State Preview meet and helped power the Lady Mariners to a sixth-place finish in one of the state's larger meets. Nearly 300 runners from throughout the state participated in the meet, which was held at Bartlett High School.
A sophomore, Daigle trimmed more than 20 seconds off her previous mark on the Bartlett course and raced her way to 14th in the girls' final standings. She finished the 5-kilometer course in a time of 20 minutes and 28 seconds.
Her previous best in the race was a mark of 20:54 — a mark she set last August as a freshman.
Daigle's strong performance — combined with a stellar effort from teammates Alex Moseley and Brooke Miller, helped catapult Homer to their third superb outing of the season. Homer, which has finished in the top 10 in each of its three meets, finished in a tie with Dimond for sixth with 187 points.
West Valley won the girls' team championship with 35 points. Kenai Central edged out Eagle River for second. Chugiak and West Anchorage rounded out the top five.
Moseley gave the Lady Mariners their second top 20 finisher with her effort on the trail. She finished the race just 4 seconds after Daigle — with a time of 20:32 — and finished 16th overall.
Miller narrowly missed a top 20 spot. She was 21st overall at 20:47.
Sienna Carey and Shine Carey rounded out Homer's top five runners. Sienna placed 64th overall with a time of 22:30. Shine was 75th at 23:12.
Also competing for Homer in the 3.1-mile race were Harmony Davidson and Anahi Ochoa. Davidson placed 106 at 26:21, while Ochoa was 119th at 31:30.
The Homer girls will return to action on Sept. 1 when they travel to Kodiak to participate in a three-team event with Kodiak and East Anchorage.
